2005/2006 programme

e in net underwaterBefore the start of the 2005/06 programme, Defra committed itself to providing supporting funds for a further three years of the partnership. The annual allocation remained unchanged, however, at £1m, and priority support was given to maintaining the established time-series on Northeast cod, southwest anglerfish, Irish Sea roundfish, and Western Channel sole and plaice. Additionally, a repeat survey was made of the plaice and lemon sole fishing grounds off the NE coast of England, the second year of that survey but with better focus than the first survey. Entirely new projects for the year looked at (5) the incidence of ghostnet fishing west of the UK by deploying grapnels in areas where deepsea fishing (nets and lines) was thought possibly to have resulted in gear being lost and abandoned, (7) Western cod, (8) the selectivity of hake fishing gear, and (10) cod off East Greenland, the latter to supplement the results of German surveys of cod around Greenland. A full list of the programmes and their objectives is given below. Full reports of the projects are available on this website, listed by vessel name, or they can be accessed on the reports page.
