The isolation of atypical Aeromonas salmonicida from the kidneys of healthly wrasse caught in the open sea is recorded. The fish were intended for use in the control of louse infestation of caged Atlantic salmon. The isolate was non-pathogenic to experimentally infected salmon smolts and was not recovered from kidney tissue 10 days after infection.
