Yersinia ruckeri, which causes enteric redmouth (ERM) disease, was isolated for the first time from a mature wild Atlantic salmon in fresh water in Scotland. The identity of the isolate was confirmed as Y. ruckeri, serotype I by biochemical tests and slide agglutination and the properties were similar to those isolates cultured from farmed Atlantic salmon in Scotland.
