The first occurrence of crayfish plague in Norway was reported in 1971 in the Vrangselven and Veksa rivers.

In order to try to prevent further spread of the disease up the Vrangselven river, two electrical fences were placed across the river at Magnor.

The first year after the fences had been operating, living crayfish were observed just above the upper fence, indicating that the fences had been effective through the first year.
