The penaeid shrimp virus, Baculovirus penaei, was the first described of the six types of virus now known to infect the penaeid shrimp. B. penaei is now knownto be widely distributed in wild and cultured penaeids in the Americas. This report documents the first observed occurrence of B. penaei in Mexico, and documents some apparently unique host-virus characteristics in Penaeus stylirostris.
