High losses of sardines( Sardinops sagax )were reported at two locations on the northern coast of Vancouver Island and from 1 inlet on the central coast of the province of British Columbia during November 2002. Virological testing of moribund and fresh dead sardines resulted in the isolation of the North American strain or viral haemorrhagic septicaemia (VHS) virus.
