Fish Fayre artwork exhibition at Lowestoft Library

Children’s artwork entered into a painting competition at the Lowestoft Fish Fayre 2004 will be exhibited at the Lowestoft Library from 23 August to 5 September. The competition was devised and organised by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas), one of the main sponsors of the fayre.

The competition – now in its fourth year – netted a wide-ranging selection from local youngsters. Children from four age categories were invited to use their creativity and imagination to show sea creatures in their work. The overall winner, in the 6–9 age range, was Ross Warren (age 7) of Lowestoft. His 3-D work, entitled, My Shark Eats Fish and Ships, included a papier-mâché shark eating the Bark Endeavour.

Cefas Communications Manager, Anne McClarnon, said: “The competition is a great way to stimulate local kids’ creativity and interest in fish. And it helps to get families along to the Fish Fayre, which raises money for charity. The library exhibition ensures wider local recognition, not just for the kids’ artwork but also for the Fish Fayre and Cefas. Once again, we’re delighted to be part of this ‘joined-up’ local event, and are grateful to the Lowestoft Library for providing such a splendid public exhibition space.”

A selection of all the paintings entered will be on show for two weeks (until 5 September) in the Lowestoft Library’s first floor landing area.
