Fish Fayre competition winners announced
The Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas), sponsor of two children’s competitions at the Lowestoft Fish Fayre 2004, officially announced the winners today (25 June).
The fancy dress competition had a marine theme, and children under 10 were invited to turn up to the Fayre in the most creative or witty costumes they could muster. The two winners, both from Lowestoft, were:
- Isabel Banham (age 8), who came dressed as a dog fish; and
- Claudia Francis (age 4), who fashioned herself as a treasure map.
Other worthy entrants included a pirate and a sea princess. The lucky winners were awarded winners’ certificates and two free tickets each to the Adventure Island Play Park, in Pinbush Road, Lowestoft.
The 4th Cefas painting competition netted a wide-ranging selection from local youngsters. There were four age categories for entrants, who were invited to use their creativity and imagination to show sea creatures in their work. The overall winner, in the 6–9 age range, was Ross Warren (age 7) of Lowestoft. His 3-D work, entitled, My Shark Eats Fish and Ships, included a papier-mâché shark eating the Bark Endeavour.
The other winners, all from Lowestoft, were:
- 3–6 age range: Chad Warren (age 3)
- 9–12 age range: Jordan Harry Barbor (age 9)
- 12+ age range: Kiri Phoenix (age 12).
The winners have been sent special certificates and will be awarded books supplied by Ottakar’s Bookshop, London Road North, Lowestoft. In addition, the paintings will be displayed in the Lowestoft Library 23 August – 5 September 2004.
Other highly commended paintings were those by:
- Rowan Sims (age 7) and
- Bethany Mackender (age 11).
Special certificates were awarded to commend them on their paintings.
