Cefas Annual Report and Accounts 2004-2005 published
The Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) publishes it Annual Report and Accounts 2004 – 2005 today. The Report describes Cefas’ major achievements and performance against targets as an executive agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
The Report highlights a number of achievements, including:
- a leading role in Defra’s Charting Progress report on the state of the seas;
- collection of new data by ensuring fishermen and scientists work together through ongoing development of working relationships with the fishing industry via the Fisheries Science Partnership;
- an early pilot study on the value of marine protected areas;
- new and innovative ways of working, for example exploring the links and opportunities when comparing fish and human cancers;
- growth in business income; and
- support for science in society through active participation with local schools and colleges.
Cefas’ Chief Executive, Mark Farrar, said that this Report ‘demonstrates how, through the expertise of its scientists and collaborative working practices, Cefas continues to lead in the application of marine science’.
Copies of the Cefas Annual Report and Accounts 2004–05 have been placed in the library of the House of Commons today.
