Environment Minister Elliot Morley launches WaveNet project
The WaveNet project was launched by Environment Minister Elliot Morley at the Oceanology International exhibition in London last week. WaveNet is an important new strategic initiative, funded by Defra, and managed by Cefas.
WaveNet was implemented to improve the management of flood and coastal erosion risk by delivering a long term series of data on our coastal waves. The network consists of new and existing wave measurement buoys around the coast of England and Wales. They deliver real-time data on wave height and direction which is publicly accessible free of charge on our website: www.cefas.co.uk/wavenet

The launch event took place at the Cefas stand and was attended by stakeholders, customers and members of the WaveNet project team. Launching the project Elliot Morley stated "helped by WaveNet, forecasters will now be able to predict wave and tide heights around the country 12, 24 and 26 hours in advance - and more quickly spot and act on potential flood danger".
