Cefas staff awarded life membership awards by English Carp Heritage Organisation (ECHO)

Kevin Denham of Cefas receives his award from Ian Chilcott, president of ECHOStephen Maidment and Kevin Denham of Cefas’s Fish Health Inspectorate were recently awarded Life Membership Awards by the ECHO president Ian Chilcott at the ECHO annual general meeting. ECHO was formed in 2001 to protect and preserve English carp. Cefas and ECHO have a longstanding relationship to jointly support research into carp disease and to prevent fish diseases being introduced to the UK through foreign infected fish.

Kevin and Ian Wood (student researcher at Cefas) presented the results of two of their research projects into fish disease which were part-financed by ECHO. These projects concerned Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) and Spring Carp Mortality Syndrome. Both presentations were very favourably received by members of the ECHO committee who include carp anglers, journalists and members of the Federation and Angling Conservation Trust (FACT).
