Cefas maintains accreditation for radioanalytical services

Our UKAS accreditation for radioanalytical services has been renewed.  This was the result of an external four year assessment to the new, and more rigorous, ISO17025:2005 standard.  This accreditation gives our customers confidence in our high quality services, to internationally recognised standards.  In the words of the external assessor, we have “excellent equipment and procedures”

Cefas has provided a radioanalytical service since the late 1940’s.  We monitor and measure levels of radioactivity in environmental samples such as fish, seaweed, mud and sea water.  We provide both radiometric and radiochemical methods, for alpha, beta and gamma radioactivity.

Our results are used to ensure that our food and the environment is safe for the public, in terms of radioactivity.  We publish these results in the annual UK Government report “Radioactivity in Food and the Environment”
