Discover the secret lives of animals
If you want to find out how we use Data Storage Tags (DSTs) to monitor animal behaviour, then visit our stand at the ICES Annual Science Conference, 19 – 23 September 2006, Maastricht. Our tags are developed in-house. As a scientific research organisation we understand the problems faced by scientists, so our products are versatile and can be customised to your specific needs. The Cefas G5 tag is opening up new fields of research for a wider range of species. Recent applications include the study of plaice, mink and penguins.
New features, which will be available late 2006, include:
- extended logging life
- fast logging rate
- dive switch
1. If your research involves studying diving birds and mammals you will be interested in our new dive switch and fast logging rate:
The addition of a dive switch allows for a Fast Logging rate to be activated when the animal enters the water so that dive profiles can be measured. With these new features you can collect data at a much faster rate during the activity of interest e.g. the dive. The deactivation switch allows the tag memory to be preserved when the activity event is complete e.g. when the bird rests on the water surface or returns to land. Fast logging rates can be set at 0.1; 0.25 and 0.5 second.

- Deactivation by removal from water / return to surface

The Dive Switch and Fast Logging Rate will be available as an optional extra on all of our tags.
2. We are also introducing an Extended Logging Life tag with a 2 year battery life. This tag uses the same reliable Cefas G5 technology and component parts, just housed in a slightly larger casing to incorporate the larger battery.
