Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (VHS) outbreak update

Following confirmation of the disease Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (VHS) being found in trout samples taken from a fish farm in the River Ouse catchment area, Fish Health Inspectors from the government’s Centre for Environment Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) have confirmed that the farm has now been cleared of all fish, and plans are in place for a thorough disinfection of the site.

Immediate contact sites have also been inspected and showed no clinical signs of disease but results from samples taken from these sites are awaited.  Inspection and sampling of all other sites in the Ouse catchment area is expected to be completed in the next10 days.   Cefas inspectors are pleased to report that they have received excellent support and co-operation to date from all those involved in these difficult circumstances.
