Lead research scientist in fish ecology, with over 10 years’ research experience in fish behaviour and field-based telemetry. Pioneering telemetry-based research into the behaviour and ecology of many marine species, including cod, bass, sole, thornback ray, common skate, spurdog, porbeagle and basking shark. Cross-linking telemetry studies with stakeholder engagement, focusing upon species of political and conservation interest such as critically endangered elasmobranchs (porbeagle sharks, spurdog and common skate), together with commercial fish species such as cod, rays and sea bass.
Current research focus upon field-based telemetry studies on threatened sharks, skates and rays by-caught in commercial fisheries, increasing scientific knowledge of spatial behaviour and life history characteristics to better inform UK policy (Defra), and EU advice (ICES).
