Verification testing on chemical substances
From September 2013 Cefas will conduct a limited verification process for persistence, bioaccumulation potential and toxicity (PBT) characteristics of chemical substances in products registered under HMCS on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Under this process selected chemical substances will be subject to a suite of tests as required by the HMCS using Cefas' ecotoxicological laboratory. The purpose of this testing is to provide reassurance on the data submitted by chemical suppliers on chemical PBT characteristics are accurate.
A maximum of 16 verification tests will be conducted each year on selected substances. Cefas will approach chemical suppliers by e-mail to request samples of their substance(s), relevant MSDS documents or certificates of analysis and copies of the full test reports supporting the PBT information included in the most recent HOCNF submission. The results of the tests will serve to verify details presented in test reports submitted in support of HOCNF registration data and, if necessary, they will be discussed with the chemical supplier. It is important that suppliers provide samples for testing in the manner described when they are approached for verification.
Cefas will ask the relevant chemical supplier to provide a sample within 6 weeks of receipt of the initial request by e-mail.
