Location of the outbreak

Description of affected population:
freshwater common carp( Cyprinus carpio )in an open production system. The population was spawning at time of collection and showed no clinical signs of the disease. The sample fish were collected in late June for screening prior to shipment of carp from this area to another country. Thirty pooled samples (5 fish in each sample) were collected at the same location and the virus was detected in 18 samples. The shipment was cancelled.

Other details/comments:
Preliminary results at the CEFAS Weymouth Laboratory placed the Canadian isolate in spring viraemia of carp virus genogroup I a together with the Asian and U.S. isolates. Further investigations will be done to compare this isolate with others.
