In this report we describe the first isolation of Renibacterium salmoninarum from coho salmon reared in floating cages in NW Spain. The affected fish showed deep abscesses on the body surface and granulomatous lesions in the kidney. The pathogen was recovered in pure culture from both fresh and frozen samples. The identification of the R. salmoninarum isolates was confirmed by phenotypical and serological traits. In addition, the membrane protein analysis revealed that the 57 kd antigen is present in the cell surface of these strains.
