IPN has been isolated fron 12 sites in South Africa. The viruses were isolated on RTG2 cells and identified as the VR299 serotype of IPN by serum neutralization, indirect fluorescent antibody technique and the immunostaphylococcus-protein-A (ISPA) test. It is believed that the virus was introduced into South Africa by imported eyed ova.
