In Poland there are four fish diseases which are known to be of viral etiology: cauliflower disease of eel, pox disease of carp, infectious swelling of the kidney of salmon fishes (viral hemorrhagic septicemia), and lymphocystis. Viral hemorrhagic septicemia occurs rather frequently and is especially troublesome in fish farms where the feed used(e.g. spleen)does not have full nutitional value. When given adequate care and suitable feed for salmonids, this disease has a tendency to decline.
