A virological survey of wild elver(Anguilla anguilla)populations along the French Atlantic coast led to the isolation of three viruses, two of which were rhabdoviruses and one of which was identified as infectious pancreatic necrosis virus, serotype Sp. The IPNV isolate was highly virulunt for young rainbow trout fry infected experimentally by bath challenge at 10 degrees C.
