This report documents the first detection of nodavirus infection (VER) in the UK, associated with mortalities and histopathological abnormalities in commercially farmed halibut. Diagnosis was based on virus isolation in cell culture, serum neutralisation, histopathology, RT-PCR and nucleotide sequencing. The nucleotide sequence showed 98% homology with the corresponding region of the published sequence of Atlantic halibut nervous necrosis virus.
