To determine if trap netting was related to the occurrence of lesions and furunculosis in smallmouth bass, bass were netted in Wilson Bay (Lake Ontario) and placed in a holding net, after which, at different intervals, sample fish were transported to the Cape Vincent Fisheries Station for further observation and subsequent analysis. The findings indicate that the causative agent of furunculosis (Aeromonas salmonicida) can be contracted by smallmouth bass held in trap nets for 2 to 10 days and that the longer they are held the greater the probability.
