All infectious diseases of concern in the aquaculture industry are of bacterial origin. These are mainly atypical furunculosis( Aeromonas salmonicida spp. achromogenes ), winter ulcers( Moritella viscosa) , cold water vibriosis (Vibrio salmonicidaI) and yersiniosis( Yersinia ruckeri ), which are all controlled with vaccination. In addition, bacterial kidney disease( Renibacterium salmoninarum )was diagnosed, a disease that we see as endemic in our wild salmonid stocks. Bacterial kidney disease has been controlled by means of an intensive testing programme since 1985, with good results.
