Cefas provides policy and scientific advice regarding offshore renewable energy to governments, the EU and international bodies. We work innovatively with a range of international academic and industry organisations on applied delivery projects and research. In this way, we act as a trusted bridge between governments, academia and industry.
Cefas provides a multi-disciplinary approach to the offshore renewable energy industry, integrating expert understanding of the marine environment and an in-depth knowledge of legislative requirements.
We have long successful track records working with the oil and gas industry as well as in research and provision of advice on fish and shellfish (biology, migrations and ecology). These track records, combined with our expertise in aerial and shipboard surveys, passive acoustic monitoring and extensive modelling capabilities, means that we are industry leaders when it comes to advice on a range of effects including noise, electro-magnetic effects and other impacts on marine wildlife.
Furthermore, our range of additional surveys using our purpose-built research vessel, as well as third party vessels, can help in the assessment of:
- Site selection
- Cable routes
- Hazards to construction
- Structural engineering
- Sensitive habitats.
We can also provide real-time metocean data to assist with offshore operations during construction, maintenance and decommissioning.
Through our active research portfolio, we are at the forefront of advances in eco-innovation. Our input into new designs for floating and deep-water turbines ensures that environmental issues are considered in a cost-effective manner prior to the development of expensive prototypes.
Our state-of-the-art modelling capability provides insight and answers to help you make the right decisions, and our technological capability means that 3D visualisations and interpreted seabed maps are available in a range of formats to meet your requirements.
If you need sound scientific advice or access to the highest quality marine science and services, please contact our Renewable Energy Programme Director.
Whether your company works in offshore wind, wave, or tidal energy production, we look forward to collaborating with you on your projects.
