As the UK’s largest and most diverse aquatic science centre, Cefas is uniquely positioned to provide disease investigation, diagnosis and control services for both government and commercial organisations.
Working in state-of-the-art facilities, our highly skilled team has an expansive track record in disease control and risk modelling, epidemiology and transboundary diseases. With a reputable research portfolio, our work provides a strong scientific basis for the design of surveillance programmes to detect aquatic animal diseases.
Alongside mathematical modelling, we use geographic information systems (GIS) to support our surveillance and disease control programmes. Recent programmes have included use of mobile phone technology and rapid polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to improve the management of listed diseases.
Cefas is the UK Government’s provider of a comprehensive aquatic animal health service and we have extensive expertise in national, EU and international aquatic animal health and sanitary legislation. Our experts also regularly advise Defra and are actively involved in EU and the World Organisation of Animal Health (OIE) working groups.
Whether you represent a commercial fishery or a government organisation, you can rely on the expertise of Cefas’ experienced team.
