Marine wildlife

Our broad range of in-house expertise facilitates the monitoring and modelling of marine wildlife for public and private sector organisations.

We work closely with aquaculture, fishing and energy companies, as well as marine and coastal infrastructure organisations and academic institutions, to provide extensive marine wildlife monitoring and modelling services.

Our highly skilled team of experts have a wealth of experience conducting research and delivering advisory work, environmental impact assessments and associated monitoring efforts for a range of different species. Among our many marine wildlife services, we can provide your organisation with visual and acoustic surveys for marine mammals, seabirds and bats, and plankton and bottom trawl assessments for jellyfish. We also offer biodiversity assessments, ecosystem and sound modelling and population density assessments.

Our purpose-built and highly equipped research vessel allows us to combine tried and tested monitoring instruments with the latest cutting edge technology and modelling tools.

Drawing on the expanse of Cefas’ expertise in marine and freshwater science, our high calibre mapping and statistical capabilities are augmented by access to pioneering research across other marine disciplines. With in-depth knowledge of UK and international regulatory requirements, our team can also support you to adhere to regulations in your project implementation.

Our team are highly trained, including JNCC certified marine mammal observers (MMO) and passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) experts, Natural England licenced bat surveyors and MARINElife trained seabird surveyors.
