Welcome to Future Ocean 25

Future Ocean 25 was held to coincide with key international and UK environmental milestones, marking the mid-point of the UN Decade of Ocean Science. The event brought together the UK’s leading marine science, evidence and advice (SEA) providers and users to accelerate the transformation of science into actionable policy—supporting sustainable growth while balancing the needs of society and nature.

Hosted by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), in partnership with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and Seafish, the conference featured a dynamic programme designed to engage all sectors in vital conversations about the future of our oceans.

Delegates had the opportunity to tour the Research Vessel Cefas Endeavour, which was moored alongside HMS Belfast on the River Thames. These tours offered hands-on insights into marine research and inspired the next generation of aquatic scientists.

Conference Themes

The event explored four key themes:

  • Nature Recovery
  • Clean Energy
  • Water Health
  • Aquatic Food Security

Each session featured keynote speakers, expert panels, and interactive discussions aimed at shaping the future of marine policy and practice.
