Dr Elena Couce

Marine Scientist - Marine Ecology

Dr Elena Couce is a Quantitative Marine Ecologist in the Biodiversity Science Team based at Cefas’ Lowestoft laboratory. Her work encompasses spatial data analysis, GIS and macroecological modelling applied to a broad range of topics in marine ecology. Part of her research focuses on the development of Species Distribution Models to understand the environmental limits of marine ecosystems in both tropical and temperate seas, and predict their possible response to climate change. For several years, she has worked on analysing the potential effect of global warming and ocean acidification on the global distribution of coral reef ecosystems, which are amongst those most strongly impacted by climate change. Additionally, she has worked in developing models to understand the response of commercially important fish species to global warming and its potential implications for fisheries.
