Dr Carolyn Graves

Dr Carolyn Graves

Dr Carolyn Graves is a marine monitoring scientist working in both pelagic and benthic biogeochemistry.

She is involved in recent and ongoing Blue Carbon projects. She contributed to an inventory of England’s Blue Carbon stocks which identified the gaps in the evidence base, and led a review of the sampling and analytical tools needed to fill these gaps. She is an advisor to Defra on emerging Blue Carbon habitats.

Carolyn has worked with Pacific small island developing states on baseline studies of marine water quality aiming to develop a resilience framework in the context of the multiple anthropogenic pressures on their marine systems, including climate change.

She is a member of the UK Pelagic Habitats Expert Group, who develop and lead assessments of the health for plankton communities. She also manages the UK’s annual submission of inputs of land-sourced pollutants to the sea, reporting to OSPAR’s Working Group on Inputs to the Marine Environment.
