Seawater salinity trend analysis for the North East Atlantic (North West European Shelf)
This gridded data product provides a trend analysis to estimate the changes in Seawater Salinity at sea surface and near sea bed for the North West European Shelf from 1st January 1985 to 30th June 2014 at 7 Km spatial resolution. Monthly and seasonal trend values were generated by applying a Generalised Additive Model (GAM) on a time series of modelling output data for Salinity at 7 Km spatial resolution from the North West Shelf Reanalysis product (004009) provided by Copernicus Marine Services (CMEMS). Daily Salinity estimations (data source: North West Shelf Reanalysis cmems product 004009) were used to calculate the monthly and seasonal averages at 7 Km resolution for salinity at sea surface, near sea bed, and for the difference between sea surface and near sea bed. Salinity averages for sea surface were calculated using salinity data from 0 to 10 meters depth. Near sea bed salinity data was used as provided by the data source. Generalized Additive Model (GAM) analysis was applied to the data time series from 1st January 1985 to 30th June 2014 to assess changes as the difference between the last modelled value and the first modelled value in the time series divided by the number of years. Please, note that the trend analysis of the time series does not include the month of December for the first winter of the series (Dec 1984). Format: Zipped netCDF files contain salinity trend analysis (GAM) values for sea surface, near sea bed, and the difference between sea surface and near sea bed as endpoints for the entire time series for each pixel (folder 'all months') and for specific months and seasons of the year and for each pixel (folder 'subseries').
