There are very few stocks in the North East Atlantic with sufficient data to derive stock/recruitment relationships and to estimate biological reference points. While ICES has been developing national and regional conservation limits for combined North East Atlantic salmon stocks as an input into the provision of management advice for distant water fisheries of Greenland and Faroes since 1997, work continues to develop river-specific reference points which can be transported to other rivers. Examination of the attainment of river-specific conservation limits based on known stock and recruitment from the River Burrishoole is examined for the period 1980 to 2000, and the implications for local management of this stock is explored.
