Dab (Limanda limanda) is currently the main target of offshore biomonitoring programmes in the UK. However, detailed knowledge of population structure and connectivity between sampling locations is unavailable. The isolation and characterisation of 30 polymorphic microsatellite loci for dab is described. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 42, with observed heterozygosities ranging from 1 to 0.089. This number of loci will allow high resolution of population structure and dynamics of dab around the British Isles.
