December of 2010 marked the first deadline for the registration of chemicals under the new REACH regulations set out to addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment. Since the inception of REACH many questions have been asked regarding possible changes which may be implemented in current guidelines such as those described by the Oslo and Paris Commissions (OSPAR) with respect to their harmonisation with REACH. We present a brief overview of the current harmonisation strategy with regard to what has been harmonised to date and what could be harmonised in the future.
