Title
Positive tipping points for accelerating transition towards sustainable aquaculture
Publication Abstract

Food system transformation is an urgent priority, but current efforts are insufficient to 16 ensure food security and environmental sustainability. Here we apply the positive tipping points (PTP) framework to aquaculture, demonstrating its potential to accelerate transformation towards greater sustainability of aquatic food production. We identify universal and sector specific leverage points and interventions to drive system changes across five case studies spanning fed and non-fed aquaculture systems. By combining the PTP approach with that of One Health aquaculture we ensure interventions safeguard human, farmed organism and animal health. We outline where sequencing modest interventions in combination with a series of enabling conditions has opportunity to create feedbacks, driving larger-scale system changes. This work shows how integrated systems approaches provide greater understanding for coordinated strategies and courses of action to better achieve sustainable food production across a global and diverse industry.
