The parasitic isopod Ceratothoa steindachneri (Order Isopoda: Family Cymothoidae) on the Suffolk coast
- Publication Abstract
-
On 18 October 2025, two specimens of E. vipera (67 and 86 mm total length) caught by hand net were found with C. steindachneri in their mouths. Both parasites were female, with the larger (11 mm) specimen ovigerous, and the smaller (9 mm) female without eggs. These records appear to be the first for the county and suggest that C. steindachneri may be spreading northwards within the North Sea.
