CEFAS OFFSHORE AND MARINE RENEWABLE ENERGY (OMRE)

Vision:

To provide integrated and regional ecosystem-based science, evidence and advice for sustainable Offshore and Marine Renewable Energy (OMRE) development, and contribute to healthy and productive coastal and marine environments.

 

To support a successful delivery of this vision, a core group of Cefas experts coordinates internal and external OMRE activity through a strategic programme of monitoring, modelling, and empirical research projects.

Our science and advice use integrated, systems-based approaches to support decision-making for the marine and coastal environment.

 

We apply our deep understanding of natural and social sciences, and policy needs, to assess environmental and ecosystem changes associated with OMRE developments, at regional, national and international scales.

 

OMRE is fast-moving and at Cefas we have the capability to address the science and evidence needs for understanding and managing this unprecedented transformation of our coasts and seas.

Our science integrates Cefas’ capabilities and expertise in natural, social, and economic sciences to deliver research and advice to the highest quality and robustness, to support OMRE developments.

 

We make a crucial contribution through data collection and analysis; through developing novel technologies, methods, and approaches for research and monitoring; and through identifying and planning for future key evidence requirements.

 

We integrate people and expertise from across Cefas’ core science themes of Ecosystem Change, Environment & People, Seafood Hazards, and Food from Water, and expand that core expertise into four main areas of research and advice. We work across topics applying our expertise and growing capability through our people.

 

We also collaborate with external experts and organisations across governments, arm’s-length bodies, academia, industry, and non-governmental organisations, forming strategic partnerships, locally and globally.
