Jamie McMurtrie

PhD Student

Jamie in a PhD student and the Collaborative Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture Futures (University of Exeter/Cefas). His PhD research focuses on the study of microbiomes in aquaculture pond systems of South East Asia and Africa to aid understanding of aquatic animal health. In particular, he is interested in the response of tilapia skin microbiomes to antibiotic exposure and the risk of antimicrobial resistance developing in aquaculture.

Before starting his PhD, Jamie completed his BSc at the University of Bath. During this time he completed a placement year at Cefas Weymouth laboratory to investigate the health status of ballan wrasse captured from the south west of England for use as cleaner fish in Atlantic salmon farming.
