Ben Maskrey

Senior Scientist - Chemistry

Ben joined Cefas in Jan 2015 as a Senior Analytical Chemist in the Harmful Algal Biotoxins (HABs) team at the Weymouth laboratory and has a particular expertise in bioanalytical mass spectrometry. In his current position he is heavily involved in overseeing the quality and the daily running of the HABs lab for the biotoxin monitoring of shellfish samples as part of the official control program for England, Wales and Scotland. He is also responsible for developing and assisting with method improvements, developments and validation. Ben's current research interests lie in new and emerging threats to food safety both from natural and anthropogenic sources. He is also a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and is currently working towards developing CChem status.
