Cefas has reinforced our commitment to race equality by signing the ‘Race at Work Charter’. In signing the charter, we have joined Defra and many other government organisations in committing to make race equality a priority. This is an important step towards achieving our objective to be an inclusive anti-racist organisation that provides equal opportunities for all and reflects the diversity of the UK.

Pledging our support for the ‘Race at Work Charter’ means making seven public commitments. These are:

  • Having an executive sponsor for race.
  • Capturing ethnicity data and publicising progress.
  • Having zero tolerance of harassment and bullying.
  • Making equity, diversity, and inclusion the responsibility of all.
  • Sustaining ethnically diverse employee career progression.
  • Supporting race inclusion allies in the workplace.
  • Including ethnically diverse-led enterprise owners in our business.

Cefas strives to be an anti-racist organisation where it is everyone’s responsibility to act against racism and opportunities are the same regardless of ethnicity. Signing the ‘Race at Work Charter’ is an important step on our journey to increase ethnic diversity across Cefas, maximising benefits for both employees and the organisation.

Neil Hornby, Chief Executive Officer, said “I am proud to sign the Race at Work Charter on behalf of Cefas as a public demonstration of our collective commitment to becoming an anti-racist organisation. This will also give us access to additional support and advice as we seek to improve our diversity and provide equal opportunities for everyone at Cefas.”
